Who we are

In 2010, Elena McMillan founded Knoxville Art Studio (KAS) with a vision: to create a space where people of all ages could explore their creativity, discover self-expression, and experience the transformative power of art. KAS has since become a hub for artistic growth and community in Knoxville.

Elena Sonbok McMillan is a lifelong artist and educator, currently teaching at Georgia Military College. With a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership Administration and three master’s degrees in art-related fields, Elena offers an impressive foundation in art history, painting, drawing, and design. Her career spans more than 14 years of teaching, including her time as an art professor, where she inspired countless students through a student-centered approach. Elena’s teaching philosophy combines traditional techniques with innovative methods to spark creativity and build confidence in each student.

Elena recently pursued an art therapy certification, expanding her approach. She uses art as a tool for emotional well-being and personal growth. Her therapeutic art sessions provide a supportive space for both children and adults to express emotions, set personal goals, and use creativity as a path to self-discovery and healing. Elena’s work at KAS is more than teaching—it’s about helping people of all ages find meaning and joy through art.

KAS has a goal of helping everyone discover their inner artist and realize that creating stunning works of art is a skill anyone can acquire. If you are ready to discover, improve, or take your artistic talents to the next level we are ready to help you!
